Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how VeloHUB Courier Services and its affiliated entities ("VeloHUB", "we", "us") collect, use, share, and protect your information when you use our apps, websites, and services, including rides, food and grocery delivery, pharmacy, the local marketplace, bulk delivery, and hireable services. By using VeloHUB, you agree to the practices described here.
Summary of key points
- We collect the information you provide (account, orders, payments) and information collected automatically (device, usage, approximate and precise location when permitted).
- We use it to run the platform: match orders to partners, process payouts, keep accounts secure, and improve the service.
- We share data only with the partners and processors needed to complete your request (drivers, merchants, payment processors), never sold to advertisers.
- We retain personal data no longer than 3 months after account termination, unless the law requires longer.
- You have rights to access, correct, delete, and port your data, and to withdraw consent.
Information we collect
Information you disclose to us
- Account details: name, email, phone number, password, and role (customer, driver, merchant, service provider).
- Transaction details: orders, ride and delivery addresses, items, and amounts.
- Verification details for partners: identity documents, vehicle and business information.
- Communications: messages with drivers, merchants, and support.
Information collected automatically
- Device and log data: IP address, device type, app version, and diagnostics.
- Usage data: pages viewed, features used, and interactions.
- Location data: approximate location from your network, and precise GPS when you grant permission, used to match and track orders.
How we use your information
- To create and manage your account and provide the services you request.
- To match orders to drivers, merchants, and service providers, and to enable live tracking and verification codes.
- To process payments and partner payouts through Paystack and Stripe.
- To keep the platform safe, prevent fraud, and enforce our Terms.
- To communicate order updates, receipts, and, where permitted, an arrival SMS with your pickup code.
- To improve and personalize the service.
Legal bases by jurisdiction
Where the EU/UK GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (to provide the service), legitimate interests (safety, fraud prevention, improvement), consent (precise location, marketing), and legal obligation. Where US state laws apply (for example California), we process personal information as a service provider and honor applicable consumer rights. Similar principles apply across our operating markets in Africa and elsewhere.
Location & camera permissions
Precise location is used to match rides and deliveries, show live tracking, and estimate arrival. Camera access is used for proof-of-delivery photos on merchant-fulfilled orders and for document verification. You can grant or revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings; some features will not work without them.
Data retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations. Personal data is deleted or anonymized no later than 3 months after your account is terminated, unless a longer period is required by law (for example, tax and financial records).
Data security
We use technical and organizational measures, including encryption in transit, access controls, and monitoring, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work continuously to protect your data.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to or withdraw consent for certain processing. You can exercise these rights in the app or by contacting us. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
Minors
VeloHUB is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected such data, we will delete it.
International transfers
We operate across the US, Canada, the EU, and several African markets, so your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses to protect your data during these transfers.
Updates to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new "last updated" date, and where required, notify you of material changes.
